NHRC alarmed by Baras shooting

KATHMANDU: National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) today said that it was deeply concerned about the death of three UCPN-M cadres in Bara on January 6.

Issuing a press statement here, NHRC has urged the groups concerned to end the political violence. Ram Prakash Yadav, Dara Yadav and Ambika Mahato were gunned down by Tarai Mukti Morcha activists in the district on Wednesday night.

The statement further added that a team of NHRC members has begun an investigation into the case and is engaged in collecting the information with the District Administration, Security Officials, the families of the victims and the representatives of political parties. NHRC has appealed the government to investigate the case and to bring the culprits to books.

They had also appealed for rolling back the decision of indefinite bandh at Bara, Parsa and Rautahat district called by the UCPN-Maoist, citing that it was affecting the life of general people and was creating hindrance for smooth running of businesses.

NHRC has strongly warned the concerned groups not to repeat such heinous acts and urged to value human rights.
