KATHMANDU, MAY 26

Nima Lama, chair of Chumnurbi Rural Municipality in Gorkha, was honoured for his efforts to preserve the Shagya Tradition in Tsum Valley during a ceremony in Lumbini on Thursday.

The Lumbini Development Trust presented Lama with a letter of appreciation for his invaluable contributions to safeguarding the cultural heritage of Tsum Valley.

The award was given during the program organized to celebrate the 2568th Buddha Jayanti in Lumbini.

Lama has played a crucial role in declaring Tsum Valley a non-sacrificial area, effectively halting the practice of animal killings. His dedication to preserving the Shagya Tradition has been instrumental in maintaining the unique cultural identity of Tsum Valley, the letter said.

Tsum Valley, renowned for its distinct cultural heritage and its location bordering China, is noted for the commitment of its people to abstain from animal killings and activities such as honey hunting.
