KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 6

Nepali and Pakistani climbers have scripted history after Cho Oyu recorded at least 11 successful summits this morning, organiser said.

According to Chhang Dawa Sherpa, Expedition Director at Seven Summit Treks, Nima Rinji Sherpa has become the youngest climber to complete his 10th peak above 8,000m as he scaled Cho Oyu at the age of 17 this morning.

Pakistani climber Shehroze Kashif also made history by climbing 13 peaks at the age of 21, Sherpa said.

Multiple record holder Nima Rinji from Makalu, Sangkhuwasabha along with other climbers including Shehroze stood atop the 8,188-meter peak at around 4:30am.

"Pasang Nurbu Sherpa and Mingtemba Sherpa have done it without using supplemental oxygen," Chhang Dawa said. Nepali climber Gelje Sherpa also scaled Cho Oyu guiding his climbing partner British woman Adriana Brownlee, according to him. "Gelje has completed his 14th peak while Adriana scaled her 13th peak above 8000m," he shared.

Taiwanese woman climber Tseng Ko Erh aka Grace also completed her 13th peak as she along with Lakpa Nuru Sherpa and Dawa Nurbu Sherpa stood atop the mountain this morning, Chhang Dawa told THT from the base camp.

Among the climbers, Polish climber Dorota Lidia and Russian woman Alina Pekova also scaled Cho Oyu on their mission to complete all 14 peaks, he said.

Once the weather permits, SST's Cho Oyu team will proceed directly to Shishapangma Basecamp and then ascend to the top, Chhang Dawa added.

In April and May 2024, Seven Summit Treks and 14 Peaks Expedition will lead the Cho Oyu and Shishapangma Expeditions, he shared.
