KATHMANDU: The District Court, Kanchanpur on Thursday ordered the release of six suspended police officials who were on trial on counts of destroying evidence and torturing suspects in yet to be solved Nirmala rape and murder case.

According to Kanchanpur Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Krishna Raj Ojha, the court asked former DSP Gyan Bahadur Sethi and former Police Inspector Ekendra Khadka to post Rs 900,000 each as bail amount.

Likewise, other four officials were also released on bail amounting to Rs 400,000 and below.

A case was registered against eight officials including former Superintendent of Police Dilli Raj Bista at the Kanchanpur Court. However, only six officers stood for trial as the expelled SP and DSP Angur GC refused to appear before the court.

Meanwhile, Kanchanpur District Court has issued warrants against Bista and GC to arrest them within 21 days and present them before the court. Both have refused to record their statements on Nirmala Panta rape and murder case.
