Nirmala’s kin stage sit-in for second consecutive day

DHANGADHI: The family and kin of Nirmala Panta who was raped and murdered three months ago have continued to stage a sit-in demanding the authorities to arrest the culprit.

A citizens’ struggle committee organised a protest rally and began the sit-in at the District Administration Office in Bhimduttanagar on Sunday. The sit-in continued today.

“We will stage the sit-in indefinitely until government books the guilty behind Nirmala’s rape and murder,” Human Rights Activist Sarada Chand said while accusing the government of taking guardianship of the perpetrator.

Likewise, Nirmala’s father Ek Raj Panta warned of staging hunger strike if the government fails to book the guilty.

“If the government fails to make public the culprit after the sit-in concludes, we (family of Nirmala) will launch a fast-unto-death,” Panta said. “Taking action against two police officials does not ensure justice to us.”

Kanchanpur has been witnessing repeated protests over failure of authorities to bring forth the perpetrator behind the heinous crime.

Likewise, the victim’s kin have been disappointed with every development on the case that still remains shrouded in apparently a-purported-mystery.
