No takers for subsidised rice
Solukhumbu, February 12
Nepal Food Corporation’s Salleri branch in Solukhumbu is struggling to sell its stock of subsidised rice as it is priced higher than the market rate.
Local consumers complained that the depot sold rice at higher price compared to the market rate. Chief at the FNC Salleri branch Shambhu Prasad Regmi admitted that the price of rice sold from his depot was higher in comparison to market rate.
The branch sells mansuli rice at Rs 47.50 per kg while the same amount of rice is sold for Rs 45 in the market. The Salleri depot has 242 quintals of rice in stock. Regmi clarified that they had set a slightly high price margin considering the amount spent while supplying the rice to the district. He added that preparations were under way to send the unsold stock of rice to Lukla depot as price revision was not an option. He informed that a report was sent to the District Administration Office and the central office of NFC for price revision.
Meanwhile, the NFC is also struggling to sell its stock of rice at Sotang depot of the district following similar conflict in price range.
