No woman running for top posts in Dhading

Dhading, April 30

No woman will be running for top posts in Dhading in the upcoming elections.

Major political parties such as the CPN-UML, CPN-Maoist Centre, and Naya Shakti Nepal have already nominated candidates for chiefs of the thirteen local levels in Dhading, but none of them have female candidates.

Although two women are reportedly prospective candidates from the Nepali Congress for mayoral posts, a source said that it was unlikely they would be nominated.

Kalpana Adhikari and Kabita Itani are said to be the prospective NC candidates for the post of mayors of Nilkantha Municipality and Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality respectively. However, a district member of the Nepali Congress said on condition of anonymity that either Narayan Kumar Shestha or Bhim Dhungana would be nominated for the post in Nilkantha Municipality.

The Rastriya Prajatantra Party also said that it was not possible to have female candidates in the district to contest for top posts in the polls. All parties have nominated female candidates for deputy mayor or vice-chair posts due to constitutional obligation.

As a large number of candidates are vying for chiefs in the polls, the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML are having a hard time finalising candidates.
