Independents outnumber party candidates in Siraha for House of Representatives and provincial assembly elections slated for November 20.

Home to four federal parliament seats and eight PA seats, 224 candidates have filed nomination for the November 20 polls in Siraha. Out of 224, 119 candidates are independents.

Victory of some independent candidates in the last local polls and their popularity must have motivated more people to file nomination as independent candidates. Independent candidates, however, claimed that they had registered their candidacies as independents after the parties played with people's sentiments.

Writer and Journalist Ram Rijhan Yadav, who has filed nomination from Siraha Constituency 2 for member of the House of Representatives, said that he had filed his candidacy as parties were mired in corruption and it was not possible to eradicate the ill practices from within the parties.

Another independent candidate Shiv Yadav, who has filed his nomination from Siraha-2, commented that he had filed his nomination as an independent candidate against corruption and lack of good governance.

As many as 85 candidates have filed their nominations for four House of Representatives seats in Siraha.

Of them, 48 are independent candidates. For eight seats of the Province Assembly, 119 have filed their nominations. Of them, 71 are independents.
