KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 19
Political parties that to want contest parliamentary and provincial polls slated for November 20 today submitted closed lists of candidates for elections under proportional representation system.
According to Election Commission official Guru Wagle, 20 political parties, including the CPN-UML, had submitted PR lists until 8:00pm today.
Representatives of the Nepali Congress and the CPN-Maoist Centre were waiting for their turn to submit lists at the time of filing this report.
According to Wagle, 14 parties submitted their PR lists for Province 1, 12 parties for Madhes, 14 for Bagmati, nine for Gandaki, eight for Lumbini, six for Karnali, and 10 for Sudur Paschim.
The number of political parties submitting PR lists could go up by the time all lists are submitted. Wagle said all the parties that entered the EC office by 5:00pm today will be allowed to submit their PR lists.
Wagle said the EC would give parties a chance tomorrow to submit required details if they failed to do so today.
A total of 110 members will be elected under PR election system and 165 under the first-past-the-post system.
Today is the last day for the submission of PR lists. Parties will have a few days to amend the close lists of PR candidates. Candidates wishing to contest FPTP election will have to submit their nomination papers on October 9.
The government will hold parliamentary and provincial polls in a single phase on November 20.
