NRA to hand over reconstruction work to local levels

KATHMANDU: The National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) has decided to hand over the reconstruction of private houses to the local levels.

Today's meeting of the NRA Directorate Committee at Singhadurbar, chaired by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, took a decision to this effect. NRA's district level office would carry out reconstruction, monitoring and verification, as per the directives.

Handing over the reconstruction work to local levels follows the election of local level representatives, said NRA's Chief Executive Officer Sushil Gyawali.

The meeting also decided to provide a grant to landless squatters to build new houses. The district coordination committee recommends the landless squatters for the grant based on verification from the local levels.

The NRA also decided to release the third tranche of a housing grant for all the quake survivors within the current fiscal year.

Likewise, the whole reconstruction would be reviewed. The future programme is set accordingly to accelerate the reconstruction, said Gyawali.

He further said that the Finance Ministry has forwarded the proposal of a concessional loan of Rs 300,000 to each family affected by the quake, and it would come into action soon after a Cabinet endorsement.
