NRNs forward wish-list with warning of stir
New Delhi, October 3:
The CPN (Maoist)-affiliated Janadhikar Suraksha Samiti Nepal, an India-based non-resident Nepalis’ organisation, today forwarded a 21-point memorandum to Prime Minister of Nepal Girija Prasad Koirala through acting Nepali ambassador to India, Tara Pokhrel, the Samiti said in a press release. The memorandum was forwarded after a meeting of the Samiti’s central committee, which was held in the Nepali Embassy recently.
Samiti chairman TB Pathak said lakhs of non-resident Nepalis living in India will come to Nepal and launch a peaceful agitation if the demands mentioned in the memorandum are not met.
The Samiti has urged Prime Minister Koirala and Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula to abolish monarchy, declare the country a republic, hold constituent assembly polls, allow non-resident Nepalis to participate in the polls, concede the Maoists’ 22-point demand and create a conducive environment for the polls.
It also sought action against those indicted by the Rayamajhi Commission, nationalisation of the property of late king Birendra and king Gyanendra and called for annulment of “unequal treaties” between India and Nepal and signing of fresh treaties.
