NSU bandh shuts Dang

Dang, August 15:

Ghorahi, the district headquarters of Dang, remained closed today following a bandh called by the Nepal Students’ Union’s (NSU) district unit.

The bandh was called to protest the alleged manhandling of its district president Dipak Pandey, a member of the Free Students’ Union at the Mahendra Multiple Campus Pawan Yadav and NSU-D’s No 2 regional secretary Kamal Kishore Ghimire by ANNISU-R cadres yesterday.

Although shops were open in the morning, the owners closed them later at the request of NSU cadres. However, vehicular movement was not affected and the SLC supplementary examination was conducted without any obstruction.

Meanwhile, central secretariat member of the ANNISU-R and coordinator of the Rapti regional coordination committee, Purna Singh, today accused the NSU activists of starting skirmishes.

He claimed that the Dang incident was just a retaliation of what NSU activists had done earlier. At a press conference he also claimed that the NSU men first attacked ANNISU-R cadres with the backing of the administration.

Saying that his organisation was ready to sit for dialogue, Singh asked the NSU to come forward with a proposal for it.
