NSU students demand justice

Pokhara, December 13:

Five students — Forestry campus unit president Ram Kumar Bhandari, Dilip Subedi, Prabal Rana, Bipin Subedi and Rabin Dhami — affiliated with Nepal Students’ Union (NSU)

at Pokhara-based Forestry Campus were hurt when CPN-UML affiliated ANNFSU and the Maoist affiliated ANNISU-R students thrashed them last evening.

Informaiton has it that ANNISU-R and ANNFSU, which are padlocking the campus demanding the campus administration to take action against students who beat up an ISc second year student Shiva Achhami in hostel on December 9, beat up the NSU students.

Bhandari, who sustained critical injuries on his head and in different parts of his body, has been undergoing treatment at Pokhara-based Phewa City Hospital and other injured are undergoing treatment in Western Regional Hospital, said NSU Kaski secretary Dev Krishna Prajuli. Over 100 youths were hired to beat up the students, the NSU source said.

Security personnel were deployed in the campus premises after the incident last night. NSU protesting the incident and demanding strict action against the guilty has closed all educational institutions in Pokhara today. Teaching in the campus has been halted for three days as the ANNISU-R and ANNFSU students have padlocked the campus administration.
