JHAPA, FEBRUARY 9

The number of cancer cases have been increasing in Jhapa district owing to various reasons, such as adulterated food, unhealthy lifestyle, and lack of timely diagnosis, among others.

Purbanchal Cancer Hospital, which is one among the five cancer hospitals in the country, records more than 60 cancer patients for regular heath check-up in the hospital's OPD on a daily basis.

Pubic Relations Officer at the hospital Pramis Giri said that a total of 18,445 cancer patients had received treatment from the hospital in last fiscal year. Among them 2,945 were new cancer patients.

The hospital was established a year ago in Birtamode, Jhapa.

Medical Director of the hospital Dr Birendra Yadav, underscoring the need for massive awareness drive regarding cancer, said that among the 2,945 new cancer patients recorded with the hospital last year, half of them were from Jhapa district.
