KATHMANDU: The High-level Media Recommendation Commission said in a press release on Friday that the members of the commission would organise interactions on media issues with members of the local communities, including intellectuals, journalists, media persons and entrepreneurs, in Biratnagar, Janakpur, Nepalgunj and Mahendranaghar next week. — HNS

Whips issued to MPs

KATHMANDU: Chief whips of the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML, Ananda Prasad Dhungana and Mahendra Bahadur Pandey, issued separate whips to their MPs on Friday, urging the latter to actively take part in House sessions. “As the government has presented bills in the House, the MPs must actively take part in discussions on the bills.” — HNS

Truce monitoring

KATHMANDU: With the objective of assessing the situation following the announcement of the ceasefire, members of the Ceasefire Code of Conduct National Monitoring Committee is to visit 13 districts — Rupandehi, Kapilbastu, Jhapa, Dhankukta, Morang, Dhanusha, Siraha, Saptari, Jumla, Mugu, Parsa, Bara and Chitwan — between Friday (July 28) and August 8, the committee said in a press release. The body has asked people to help its members assess the impact of the truce. — HNS

Teams formed

KATHMANDU: Foreign Relations and Human Rights Committee of the House of Representatives on Friday constituted two teams for carrying out inspection of the inundated areas lying in Siraha and Parsa districts on the Nepal-India border. The teams will present a report to the House along with their opinion. — RSS

Oli airs regret

KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister K P Sharma Oli said on Friday that Nepal faced the worst form of autocracy post-1990 and that democracy proved to be short-lived and imperfect in the second half of the last century. He said so while addressing a programme marking the golden jubilee of Nepal-Russia diplomatic relations. Nepal and Russia established diplomatic relations on July 20, 1956. — HNS

Dacoits loot property

ITAHAR: Armed dacoits looted property worth Rs 2 lakh at Madhesa-3 (Sunsari) on Thursday night. Brandishing pistols and khukuris the dacoits looted cash and goods from the houses of Keshav Koirala, Krishna Chandra Niraula and Mukti Nath Niraula, said inspector at the District Police Office (Sunsari), Prem Shahi. The dacoits, numbering around 20, went on a looting spree after creating terror in the village. The gang’s operations went on for half an hour. Police said, the dacoits looted gold jewellery, a mobile set, two watches and cash Rs 86,000. — HNS

One killed in mishap

TANAHUN: One person died and another was critically injured in a motorbike accident at Aanbukhaireni-7 on the Aanbukhaireni-Mugling sector of Prithvi Highway on Friday.

Pillion rider, Kosh Nidhi Tiwari (45), a resident of Chisapani VDC died on the spot when the accident occurred, said the area police office, Belchautara. The speeding motorcycle dashed against an electricity pole beside the road. The motorcycle driver, Kopil Kumar Ghimire, a resident of Bajhakhet-8 (Lamjung), who was critically injured in the accident, has been sent to Bharatpur hospital. — HNS
