Mistura UN team head

KATHMANDU: The United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) confirmed on Friday that a UN assessment team led by Staffan De Mistura is scheduled to visit Nepal from July 26 to August 3. “UN secretary-general Kofi Annan has decided to send a team to Nepal to discuss the proposed UN assistance in the peace process,” the UNIC said in a press statement. Through consultations with all concerned, the mission will seek a common understanding of the nature and scope of responsibilities the UN could undertake in the peace process, it said. — HNS

6 Nepalis evacuated

New Delhi: Six Nepalis evacuated from Lebanon along with 700 Indians will arrive in New Delhi on Saturday morning, according to the Nepali embassy in the Indian capital. The evacuees have been identified as Lok Bahadur Thapa, Samjhana Tiwari, Manmaya Gurung, Sri Prasad Gurung, Tarikh Siwali and Yaiha Siwali, all residents of west Nepal. The evacuees left Cyprus’ Larnaca airport for Mumbai this evening, charge d’affaires at the Nepal embassy here, Tara Pokhrel, told this daily. Fifty other Nepalis have contacted the Nepali mission in Egypt and they will also be brought to New Delhi along with the other Indians, he said. The Nepali embassy here is also preparing to send the first lot of Nepalis in a bus to Nepal on Saturday evening. — HNS

KATHMANDU: The meeting of the Cabinet Administrative Committee (CAC) is deliberating over the ways in which the bureaucracy can be changed to meet the spirit of the historic HoR Promulgation of May 18. Man feared drowned

DHADING: A resident of Bhadaure of Gajuri VDC, Balaram BK, 40, has been missing since he had gone to bathe in Trishuli river on Wednesday. It is feared that he was swept away by the river. The locals have been searching him for two days. — HNS
