Cop attempts rape

BAGLUNG: Locals of Baglung Municipality-3 on Sunday night held police constable Ram Bahadur Gurung for attempting to rape a woman. Gurung, a resident of Gorkha district, was subsequently handed over to the police for action. According to the locals, Gurung was under the influence of alcohol when they nabbed him. The locals, who had acted immediately after listening to the woman’s yell for help, reached the woman’s house where Gurung had forcefully entered. —HNS

Man hacked to death

SARLAHI: Ram Chandra Mahato (40) of Pokhariya Tol in Ishworpur VDC, Sarlahi, was hacked to death by an armed gang while he was sleeping in the front yard of his house on Sunday. According to the police, a group of five to seven persons attacked Mahato at 2 pm with sharp weapons. Mahato’s son, Lalbabu (17), who was sleeping with his father, was seriously injured in the incident. The police have arrested Bilas Shah (52) of Ishworpur VDC on the charge of involving in the killing. — HNS

Two held with arms

JANAKPURDHAM: The police arrested two persons in possession of weapons from Zero Mile area of Janakpur on Monday. Shree Prasad Sah (35) and Ramadhin Sah (22) of Janakpur Municipality-7 and Aurahi VDC, respectively, were those held along with three pistols and a khukuri, Inspector Yadavraj Khanal said. He also informed that the duo were arrested while they were preparing to detonate a socket bomb. — HNS

Bank runs out of cash

DAILEKH: Dailekh branch of the Rastriya Banijya Bank, the only bank in the district, has run out of money. Teachers of the area have been hit hard as they have not been able to withdraw their salaries from the bank. Nirmal Adhikary, a teacher at Bhagwati Primary School in Tursuka, said that he had been waiting for the past four days in the district headquarters to withdraw his salary. — HNS
