Man shot dead

DANG: Jageshwor Dangi, a manpower company owner of Tarigaon VDC in Dang district, was killed when an unidentified gang shot him on

Tuesday night. Dangi died on the spot when a group of four to five

persons on motorbikes fired at him, District Police Office, Dang said.

Police have intensified the search for the assailants. Police suspect that Dangi was killed over a dispute related to foreign employment. —HNS


Priest beaten to death

CHITWAN: Two locals thrashed Ram Chandra Aryal, a priest at Ikshyakamana Temple, Mugling, to death on Wednesday. Critically injured in the beating, Aryal breathed his last on the way while being taken to Bharatpur Hospital for treatment. Police

arrested Sudhir Thapa and Dan Bahadur Baram Magar suspecting

their involvement in the incident.

The duo, during interrogation, already conceded their involvement in the murder and revealed that a monetary row with the priest led to the crime.-HNS


PU exams postponed

BIRATNAGAR: Purbanchal University on Wednesday said that it postponed the examinations of different subjects and levels for an indefinite period after the ANNISU-R students — the UCPN-Maoist's student body — padlocked the office of the Controller of the Examination, Registrar and Vice-chancellor five days ago. According to the university's exam routine, the Bachelor third year exam was due to begin on July 12. The Maoist students padlocked the university offices five days ago accusing that the university was apathetic towards the problems of the students at Homeopathic Medical College. The university has also postponed the first year examinations of M. Ed. and third year examinations of Bachelor level of all streams. — HNS


UGC workforce

KATHMANDU: The University Grants Commission on Tuesday formed a workforce that will brief the Ministry of Education on the matters related to the establishment of the proposed Rajshree Janak University. The workforce includes members Prof Arun Kumar Das, coordinator, Prof Pushpa Kamal Subedi, Associate Prof Krishna Prasad Poudel and Dilliram Rimal and member secretary Kedar Prasad Acharya. — HNS
