NC issues whip
KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party chief whip Laxman Prasad Ghimire on Tuesday issued a whip to all NC Constituent Assembly (CA) members to compulsorily attend Wednesday’s House meeting and vote in support of the government’s bill on vote-on-account. If the bill is not passed by parliament, the government would not be able to undertake any economic activities until the budget for fiscal 2009/10 is passed. — HNS
Chapacho victims
Bhaktapur: The families of the victims of the Chapacho incident in Bhaktapur have announced more protests from July 22, demanding compensation for next of kin of
three youths killed in the incident. Three youths — Jeevan Gaha Magar, Sabin Mahat Chhetri and Basanta Lama — were killed in the incident at Chapacho in Madhyapur Thimi. Shir Kumari Gaha Magar, mother of Jeevan, said they were compelled to launch the protests as the government paid no heed to their demands. The victims’ families have demanded a compensation of Rs 10 million for the next of kin of each victims. — RSS
‘Local bodies soon’
Biratnagar: Minister for Local Development Purna Kumar Sherma Limbu said on Tuesday that the local bodies would be formed at the earliest. Talking to mediapersons here on Tuesday, Minister Limbu reiterated that the local bodies would be constituted by forging consensus among the political parties. Even a task force would be formed on the basis of agreement to this end, he added. — RSS
