Landslide claims one
RAJBIRAJ: Forty-five-year-old Sita Devi Yadav of Rajbiraj ward No 10 died on the spot after being swept away in a landslide at the bus park at Rajbiraj-9 on Tuesday. Seventeen-year-old Santosh Yadav, who was critically injured in the incident, has been admitted to the Sagarmatha zonal hospital in Rajbiraj for treatment. — HNS
Curfew continues
Pokhara: The District Administration Office, Kaski, has imposed daytime curfew in Pokhara on Wednesday as well. Curfew will be clamped down from 11:00 am till 6:00 pm, said chief district officer, Madhav Raj Regmi. Similarly, the administration has decided to impose daytime curfew within one km radius of Bijaypur-Tal Chowk road section. The curfew timings are the same as that of Pokhara. This is the first time that curfew is being imposed at Lekhnath. —HNS
Maoists bomb house
GAIGHAT: Maoists detonated a bomb on Monday evening in the house of Udaypur DDC chairman Bodha Raj Basnet. A group of four Maoists set off a powerful bomb at around 7:00 pm in the house situated at Ratamate of Triyuga Municipality-17. The blast damaged the entire house along with furniture, TV, motorcycle, refrigerators, jewellry and other valuables. The blast caused damage worth Rs 2.3 million, according to the police. — RSS
Kala-azar cases up
MAHOTTARI: The Mahottari hospital at Jaleswor has come under pressure following an increase in the number of kala-azar patients visiting the hospital, according to the hospital. The disease has broken out with the onset of scorching summer. On an average 20 kala-azar patients are visiting the hospital daily since last month, said expert on kala-azar Dr Dwarika Prasad Shah. According to him, 17 such patients have already returned home after treatment within the past 15 days. — RSS
Mine collapse kills 2
BIRTAMOD: Two women of Bahundangi VDC died after a sandmine they were digging for black sand collapsed over them on Monday. Chandrakala Baral (36) and Bina Budhathoki (36) died when they were buried under the earth while digging black sand for household purpose, according to Devu Baniya, a local. Similarly, Susmita Baral, Manju Bhandari and Shila Dahal sustained injury in the incident. — RSS
Locals arrest looters
TANAHU: Residents of Dumre bazaar in Tanahu caught three looters and handed them to the police on Monday. The arrested looters are Uttam Kharel (22) of Kharelthok-5, Kavre; Jal Bahadur Gurung (20) of Chhorepatan, Pokhara, and Hari Giri (19) of Birendranagr-2, Chitwan, according to the Police. The looters, who were wounded by the beating of the villagers, are undergoing treatment in Damauli. — RSS

NUWAKOT: Farmers rearing cattle in Nuwakot have been attracted to artificial insemination (AI) of their cows and buffaloes. The technology of artificial fertilisation in cattle was introduced in the district in 1989. A total of 119,600 cows and 85,200 buffaloes have been inseminated through this technology so far, according to the District Livestock Office. The farmers pay Rs 28 per insemination of their cattle, and the injection should be given within 18 hours after the cow or buffalo show symptoms of heat. — RSS
Girl kills self
NUWAKOT: Eighteen-year-old Rina Tamang, a resident of Okharepauwa VDC Ward No 3, has committed suicide by hanging herself on the ceiling of her house. According to the district police office, Rina, the eldest daughter-in-law of Mangal Bahadur Tamang, committed suicide. The reason behind the suicide is not known, according to the police. — RSS

BARA: Paddy crop belonging to Ananta Bhagat Mali was gutted when unidentified persons set fire to dry paddy at Kalaiya on Saturday. According to his brother, Sitaram, the fire engulfed crop on 17 kathhas of land. — RSS
Seminar held
RAMECHHAP: A seminar on plan formulation for the year 2063/64 of the Rural Health Development Project, an INGO working in the health sector in Ramechhap since nine years, has concluded. The Swiss Development Commission in association with the District Health Office is running the project. The seminar held in Manthali endorsed a budget of Rs 4.5 million for the fiscal year of 2063/64. — RSS
Civilian abducted
DHADING: Maoists abducted thirty-five-year-old Yadu Kumar Khatiwada from his residence at Kalleri village development committee of Dhading district on Monday night, locals said, adding that his whereabouts were unknown. Condemning the abduction, district-based rights organisations have called for an immediate and unconditional release of Khatiwada. — HNS
Offices deserted
NAWALPARASI: All the government offices based at Kawasoti have been closed down for the past two days as the employees of the offices have been taking part in the agitation announced by the seven-the party alliance. Offices of the local administration, Nepal Electricity Authority, Nepal Telecom, Water Supply Corporation, Land Revenue, Survey Department and banks are among the offices that have been padlocked. However, Chief District Officer Niranjan Baral said the offices were not padlocked. — HNS

BIRATNAGAR: Expressing their solidarity with the democratic movement and demanding an end to violence, release of all political prisoners and preservation of human rights, all 500 inmates of Morang prison chanted pro-democracy slogans for about an hour on Tuesday. Bombs defused
Tanahun: The bomb disposal squad of the Royal Nepalese Army today defused two bombs placed at the main gate of the Byas Municipality Office and the District Forest Office (DFO). The municipality office suffered damages of over Rs one lakh when the bomb there went off
during the security men’s bid to defuse it. The two bombs were spotted at around 5 am. Company Commander of the Samarsur Company of the RNA, Anil Khadka, said it took the disposal unit almost three hours to defuse the bombs. A security source claimed that the Maoists had planted the bombs, but a district-level Maoist leader denied the party’s
