15 girls rescued, 7 flee

NEW DELHI: A New Delhi-based NGO has rescued 15 Nepali girls from brothels in the Indian capital. The Court of Child Welfare rescued them from brothels located at the red light zone at GB Road, said chairperson of the NGO Bharati Sharma. Those rescued were all from different villages of Nuwakot. Seven girls above 18, however, fled after they were rescued, Sharma said. In the case of the rest eight girls who are below 18, arrangements would be made to send them back to Nepal, she said. — HNS

Invigilators expelled

LAHAN: At least 12 invigilators deputed in four SLC exam centres in Siraha were expelled on Thursday for allegedly violating the exam regulations. Those expelled are Shirish Kumar Singh, Panchu Das, Bijaya Kumar Lama, Ram Babu Lama, Ram Prasad Yadav, Arbinda Yadav, Surendra Kumar Yadav, Sunil Lama and Shiva Kumar Shah, according to the district education office. — HNS

Property gutted

DANG: Fire at the residence of a local Phagune Pun at Kaldhare of Siddhar VDC in Arghakhanchi damaged property worth thousands of rupees on Wednesday. The fire damaged cash worth Rs 50, 100, gold, silver, food and important documents. Altogether 18 goats and 16 cows and oxen were also killed. — HNS

Indian aid for campus

Kathmandu: The Embassy of India is providing a grant assistance of Rs 25.7 million to Bhairahawa Multiple Campus of Siddharthanagar, Rupandehi, for the construction of a postgraduate building and girls hostel with a kitchen. A memorandum of understanding (MoU)

was signed to this effect between the Embassy of India, the district development committee of Rupandehi and the campus administration today, a release issued by the embassy stated. — HNS

Army frees one

BAGLUNG: One Narendra Shrisha, who was detained on Monday for being a Maoist, was released on Wednesday in the presence of human rights activists. The RNA released him after finding him innocent, according to Hemjung Thapa, spokesperson for the army’s No 23 Brigade. — HNS

Former cop killed

Dang/Hetauda: A group of suspected Maoists shot dead a former head constable of police, Fatteh Bahadur Bista, at Tulsipur Chowk in Ghorahi of Dang on Thursday. A report from Hetauda said Maoists abducted four persons, including two policemen, from Parsa on Wednesday. The abducted are civilians Shyam Khatiwada (44) and Kedar Pudasaini (35) and police inspector Raj Kumar Khiuju and head constable Megh Raj Ghimire. The Human Rights Protection Forum urged the Maoists to release the abductees. — HNS
