POKHARA: Senior astrologer Dr Balram Upadhayaya has received doctorate degree for his research on Astrology Journalism in Nepal. He has been chief editor of the Astrology Forecast based in Pokhara. Upadhayaya was given a title of Ph D by the distinguished personalities at the Calcutta University recently. — RSS
Award established
BIRTAMOD: A meeting of Nepal Press Union Branch Office, Jhapa, held recently has decided to establish Khagendra Memorial Journalism Award to be conferred on a journalist making remarkable contribution in the field of Nepali Journalism. The prize, which carries a purse of Rs 11,100 and a copper plaque, was set up after the name of youth journalist late Khagendra Karki. — RSS
Inventory to be set up
DHADING: An inventory of rescue materials like rafting boat, oxygen cylinder and others will be maintained at the proper place of the Prithvi Highway so as to facilitate the supply of rescue materials during rescue operation in emergency situations like road accidents and natural disasters. The meeting of the District Natural Disaster Rescue committee held on Monday under the chairmanship of Chief District Officer Ramsaran Chimauriya made this decision. A working plan for minimising road accidents and natural disaster will be formulated. — RSS
Tenures extended
KATHMANDU: The government on Tuesday extended the tenures of two Deputy Inspector Generals of Police (DIGs) by an additional year each. According to sources, the cabinet approved the proposal for the extention of the tenures of DIGs Rup Sagar Moktan and Krishna Basnet by one more year. Moktan and Basnet were due to retire on Wednesday. Basnet was recently promoted to acting Additional Inspector General of Police. Meanwhile, Additional Inspector General of Police Dr Govinda Prasad Thapa will retire from active service on Wednesday. — HNS
‘Buddha Boy’ missing
BARA: The whereabouts of the ‘Buddha Boy’ Ram Bahadur Bamjan, who went missing since Saturday morning from the Charkose Jhadi at Ratanpuri of Bara, where he was meditating under a peepal tree, is still unknown. Ram Kamal Acharya, inspector of Unified Security Base Camp said, they could not trace the ‘Buddha Boy’ till Tuesday evening. He also informed that plainclothes security personnel are deployed in the areas to search Bamjan. — HNS
House bombed
DANG: The Maoists detonated a bomb at the house of deputy mayor of Tulsipur Municipality, Man Bahadur Goldsmith, on Tuesday night, the police said, adding, the Maoists asked all people in the house to leave the building before setting off the bomb. Although the explosion caused heavy damages to the house, details of the loses are as yet unknown. Goldsmith won the post of deputy mayor as an RPP (Kamal Thapa) candidate in the municipal polls on February 8. — HNS
32 SLC centres
DHARAN: Altogether 32 examination centres have been established in Sunsari district for the SLC exam beginning from March 27. According to the District Education Office (DEO), 21 exam centres are established in three municipalities of the district. Among them, there are nine centres in Dharan, seven in Itahari and five in Inaruwa. Other centres are set up at Madhuban, Kusaha, Bhasi, Pakali, Singiya, Khanar, Harinagara and Aurawani VDCs. Three exam centres are set up in Duhabi VDC, DEO said. — HNS
Movement restricted
MAHOTTARI: Movement of vehicles in the forest area on the Mahendra Highway during the nights have been restricted to control increasing looting cases. Robberies and lootings have increased in the 30 km forest area from Bardibar to Phuljor of Sarlahi of Mahottari district and most of such crimes have taken place during the nights so the movement of vehicles has been restricted, the District Police Office, Mahottari, said. — RSS

NUWAKOT: The Central Luzon State University Nuevaecija, Philippines, has awarded the Ph D Degree in Soil and Water Management to Shyamnandan Mandal, Soil-conservation Officer of District Soil Conservation Office, Nuwakot. RNA peace mission
KATHMANDU: The final team of the fourth contingent of Singhanath Battalion (Peace Keeping Force) led by Major Harendra Kumar Singh left here on Monday for Burundi on a peace keeping mission at the call of the United Nations. The team comprises 182 Royal Nepalese Army personnel including four officers, 36 JCOs and of other ranks.— RSS
