New Korean envoy

KATHMANDU: Korean Ambassador to Nepal, Nam Sang-jung, arrived here on Wednesday to assume his new assignment. He was received at the TIA by the King’s Honorary ADC and Deputy Chief of Protocol of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mohan Krishna Shrestha. Meanwhile, ambassador of Thailand to Nepal Phenchome Incharoensak left here on Thursday for Bangkok upon the completion of her tenure. — RSS

Blast in Doti

DIPAYAL: The Maoists detonated a bomb at the Rural Women Training Centre in Doti on Wednesday. According to the centre, the blast has caused loss of property worth Re 60,000. — HNS

Anti-graft meet

KATHMANDU: A regional conference of anti-corruption agencies will be held here in May, according to the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA). The Asian Development Bank is to organise the conference to review anti-corruption drive in the region and to formulate necessary policies in this regard. “The conference is expected to pass major policies to combat corruption in the region,” commissioner of the CIAA, Lalit Bahadur Limbu, said. At least 35 anti-corruption agencies will be invited to the conference. — HNS

Two rangers abducted

PYUTHAN: The Maoists abducted Pankan Thakur and Rajendra Kumar Shreevatav, rangers of Baraula Range Post and Khalanga Range Post, from Sarangbeshi of Raspurkot VDC on Wednesday, the District Forest Office said. The Maoists abducted the two rangers, saying they had to interrogate them, eyewitnesses said. Offices of all the range posts based in the villages of Pyuthan have been shifted to the district headquarters after the Maoists ordered the offices to leave the villages last year. — HNS

Meet on trafficking

KATHMANDU: National Network Against Girl Trafficking (NNAGT) on Thursday organised ‘National Consultation on the Protection, Care and Support Services and Livelihood Options for Victims/Survivors of Trafficking and Other forms of Violence’, according to a statement issued here on Thursday. The consultation programme came up with two regional protocols ‘Minimum Standards of Care and Support for the Victims of Trafficking and other Forms of Violence in South Asia and Regional Victims Witness Protection Protocol to Combat Trafficking, Commercial Exploitation and Sexual Abuse of Women and Children in South Asia’. Consultations with related government and non-government organisations will be held to adopt and implement it in the Nepali context, it said. — HNS

Envoy visits library

KATHMANDU: Ambassador of Bangladesh to Nepal, Mohammed Humayun Kabir, on Thursday visited Society for Kathmandu Valley Public Library (SKVPL) and handed over books and educational materials to Dr Narayan Khadka, president of the SKVPL, according to a statement issued here on Thursday. Ambassador Kabir stressed that the library needs to be equipped with Internet services to provide better services to the readers and expressed commitment to provide service to the library in future as well. — HNS
