Two killed in mudslide
SARLAHI: Two women were killed in a mudslide at Titredanda Village Development Committee (VDC) of Sarlahi district on Sunday while they were digging soil to colour their houses. One of them died on the spot and another on way to the area health post for treatment. —HNS
One killed in mishap
DANG: One Krishna Bahadur BK, 53, a resident of Bijauri-5, Hemantapur, was killed on the spot after a Lions Club, Tulsipur ambulance ran him down at Bijauri-1, Dudharas on Saturday night. Lions Club will provide Rs 75,000 in compensation and pay for the education of two children of BK up to the secondary level, police said. — HNS
6 houses gutted
RAJBIRAJ: At least six houses were destroyed and properties worth lakhs of rupees gutted when fire broke out at two separate places at Saptari, on Sunday. The fire that started from the house of Shyam Sundar Malla at Bhardaha-2, spread to other areas and burnt down the houses of Kaushal Kumar Mandal, Indra Dev Mandal and Mahadev Mandal, the Area Police Office, Kanchanpur, said. Similarly, a fire at Khatwe tole at Piprapurba VDC-1 devastated houses of Daya Ram Khanga and Timai Khanga, former VDC chairman Parameshwor Chaudhary, said. — HNS
Rickshaw rally
Nepalgunj: Around 12 NGOs working for the dalits on Sunday took out a rickshaw rally urging all the sectors to make Nepalgunj a discrimination-free municipality. The rally organised by the Touchability surveillance Centre, District Dalit Network, Dalit NGOs Federation and Dokfa Nepal originated at the Karkado chowk and went around Pushpa Lal Chowk, Sadarline, Tribhuvan chowk, BP Chowk and converged into a corner meeting. Speaking at the meet, president of Rickshaw Union, Top Bahadur Shah, said untouchability is still rampantly practiced. Regional president of the Dalit NGOs Federation, Jas Bahadur Bishokarma, said even the state is meting out discrimination against the dalits.—HNS
