Lankan secy’s visit
KATHMANDU: Sri Lankan Foreign Secretary, Dr Palitha TB Kohona , is arriving Nepal on a three-day visit beginning July 26. According to a press release, issued by the Embassy of Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, Kohona is scheduled to meet PM Madhav Kumar Nepal, Foreign Minister Sujata Koirala and his Nepalese counterpart Gyan Chandra Acharya and hold discussions on bilateral relations between the two countries. He is also expected to meet former prime minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal. He is also scheduled to visit Lumbini — the birthplace of Lord Buddha, the statement read. — HNS
Leftist leader dies
Kathmandu: Senior communist leader Hikmat Singh Bhandari passed away on July 22. He was 83. Late Bhandari was a contemporary of founder leader of the Communist Party of Nepal, Pushpalal and was associated with the country’’s communist movement for a long time. He also prepared the draft of the new people’’s programme for the communist movement and was involved in getting it ratified. The CPN (United Marxist) has expressed condolences over Bhandari’’s demise and sympathies to the bereaved family. — RSS
Fatal trap
Ilam: A man died when he was trapped under a parked truck at Chumbangma- 4 of Ilam on Friday. The deceased has been identified as Rudra Bahadur Magar, an assistant of the driver, of Budhabare of Jhapa. The accident occurred while he was repairing the vehicle. Police said process was underway to take his body to the district hospital for post-mortem. — RSS
Bomb defused
Kalaiya: A team of Nepali Army defused a gas cylinder bomb kept under the culvert at Choiriya Chowk along the Kalaiya -Birgunj road section in Bara, said the District Police Office. The bomb was diffused at 6:30 pm yesterday. Pedestrians had informed the local body about the bomb and it was diffused with the help of the Armed Police Force personnel. — RSS
