The head office of the Eastern Division of the Royal Nepalese Army has constituted a committee to look into the incident that took pace on Asoj 30 in Belbari of Morang district in which four Maoists were killed when they tried to hurl socket bombs at the security forces. The commmittee has been formed in the wake of media reports that accused the army personnel involved of human rights violations.— RSS

DFO freed

DIPAYAL:

The Doti District Forest Officer Bishwo Nath Prasad Mahato, who was abducted five days ago by the Maoists, was released on Wednesday. He was abducted by the Maoists on October 21 from a vehicle at Gaira at Doti Ghanteshwor VDC when he was returning to his office from home after Dashain. I was freed at Laxminagar on Wednesday, Mahato, who reached here on Friday, said. — HNS

One electrocuted

LAHAN:

One Dilip Kumar Mahato, a resident of Sukhipur Village Development Committee-2 of Siraha was electrocuted on Friday. He was fixing up some problems in his house when the incident occurred. — HNS

Maoists release cop

MAHENDRANAGAR:

Maoists have released a constable of the armed police force who was abducted 19 days ago from Gulariya of Krishnapur. Deepak Damai, resident of Mahendra Municipality-14, Banakatti, currently posted at the Badimalika Armed Police Force Battalion in Banbaheda, was released in the presence of a facilitator of the Informal Sector Service Centre on Wednesday.— HNS

Tiger kills one

BIRGUNJ:

A tiger attacked and killed one Sonbarsha Mahato and injured Ekbal Hajara, 45, on Thursday. Sonbarsha and Ekbal of Kanchanpur-7 were living in a hut built for looking after the paddy plantation in his field when the tiger attacked them, the police said. The injured is being treated at the Narayani hospital. — HNS

Warning against pact

KATHMANDU:

Chairman of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (Rastrabadi), Rajeswor Devkota, on Friday ruled out the possibility of a working alliance between the seven agitating parties and the Maoists, adding that the Maoists were not supporting the parties but “trying to use” them. Devkota said the parties would take part “indirectly” in the municipal and “directly” in the general elections. — HNS

Karki takes oath

KATHMANDU:

Chief Secretary Lokman Singh Karki took the oath of member of the Raj Parishad in the presence of the Chairman of the Raj Parishad Standing Committee Parashu Narayan Chaudhari at a ceremony organised at the Raj Parishad Building, Kantipath on Friday. The Chief Secretary of the government is the ex-officio member of the Raj Parishad.— RSS

Maoists rob house

DHANKUTA:

A group of suspected Maoists robbed the house of Prem Bahadur Parajuli of Parpatale in Ward No 2 of Dhankuta Municipality. The group of four persons posing as area secretaries of the Maoists reportedly took away Rs 12,000 from his house at around midnight. — RSS

Crackers destroyed

INURWA:

The armed police have destroyed the firecrackers worth about Rs 1 lakh which was smuggled into the country from Indian border point for the occasion of the Deepawali festival. The firecrackers seized from businessmen in Jhapa, Morang and Sunsari were destroyed, said Deputy Inspector General, Sanat Basnet.— RSS
