King to visit Pokhara

POKHARA: King Gyanendra and Queen Komal will arrive in Pokhara on Tuesday in course of a royal visit to the western region. A 1,101-member main reception committee headed by chairman of the District Development Committee Kaski, Ramesh B Bhattarai, has been formed to welcome the royal couple. The King and the Queen will hold interactions with members of the civic society in Baglung, Butwal, and Pokhara on October 5, 6 and 9, the member-secretary of the reception committee, Keshav Bhandari, said. Gates have been erected in different places in Pokhara to welcome the royal couple, said Bhandari. The King and Queen are scheduled to stay in the Ratna Mandir at lakeside in Pokhara. — HNS

One shot dead

RAUTAHAT: An unidentified group shot dead Laxmi Rai Yadav of Haraiya VDC in Rautahat in front of Shankar Secondary School at Samanpur on Monday afternoon. According to the District Police Office, Yadav had surrendered before the local authorities a few weeks ago after quitting Terai Peoples’ National Front. — HNS

Landslide kills kids

DIPAYAL: Two children of a family were killed and two others injured when a house at Barchen VDC in Doti collapsed after a landslide, triggered by heavy rainfall on Saturday night. According to the relatives of the victims, Yam Bahadur Mauni,11, and Nirmala Mauni, 15, were killed in the incident. Both the children’s parents were injured, they said. The CDO of Doti, Bhojendra Kumar Chettri, said relief materials worth Rs 42, 600 had been distributed among the victims. Over a hundred landslide-related applications have been submitted at the District Administration Office, Doti, till date. — HNS

Land grab protested

BHARATPUR: A protest rally was staged here on Monday against the encroachment of land in Susta. Bharatpur: The Royal Chitwan National park remanded five people accused of selling rhino horn into custody on Sunday.
