KATHMANDU: The Election Commission on Friday provided the newly registered party — Madhesi Janadhikar Forum-Nepal (Loktantrik) — with an election symbol of Namaste gesture, with both hands clasped together pointing upwards to greet a person. The election symbol was provided in accordance with Article 142 of the Interim Constitution of Nepal-2007, Election Commission Act-2007, Political Party Registration Act- 2007 and Constituent Assembly Member Election Act- 2008, the EC said. The party, which is now led by Deputy Prime Minister Bijay Gachhadar, is an offshoot of Madhesi Janadhikar Forum led by Upendra Yadav. — HNS

BIRGUNJ: Vegetables and meat entrepreneurs of Parsa district called off their protest programme on Friday. The entrepreneurs were protesting since Sunday putting forth various demands, including reduction of market tax, custom tax and other taxes.
