Blockade called off
Panchthar: Traffic resumed today on the Panchthar-Taplejung section of the Mechi Highway after completion of the seven-day blockade called by the Maoists. People in Taplejung and Panchthar districts were facing food shortage due to the blockade. Though the blockade was called off on September 5, no vechicles plied on the roads due to threats by local Maoists workers. The blockade was called to protest against the killing of six Maoists cadres by the security forces. — HNS
NHRC concern
KATHMANDU: A National Human Rights Commission statement on Friday came down heavily on the security forces for using excess force on members of civil society engaged in peaceful demonstrations in the valley. Girl killed in accident
TANAHUN: Mamata Ranabhat, eight, was run over by a passenger bus at Jamune VDC-3 on Prithvi highway on Thursday afternoon. She later died while undergoing treatment at the Western Regional Hospital, Pokhara, District Police Office, Tanahun said. — HNS
