DHANKUTA: Six houses collapsed on Friday morning at Hile of Dhankuta municipality due to incessant downpour since Thursday. The Royal Nepalese Army personnel helped salvage household goods from four of the collapsed houses. — HNS

2 killed in mishap

DIPAYAL: Two persons were killed on the spot when an empty truck bound for Dhangadhi from Baitadi skidded off the road and fell about 500 metres down at Khaharekhan of Dadheldhura district on Friday morning. Those killed were truck-owner Yam Bahadur Bohara and his son, police said.— HNS

US aid to UNHCR

KATHMANDU: TheUNHCR has receieved a contribution of $ 1,762,180 from the US Government, a statement issued on Friday said. The contribution is set towards UNHCR’s 2005 Annual Programme Budget for Nepal. Abraham Abraham, the UNHCR’s reprensetative in Nepal, has thanked the US government for “its most generous contribution” to UNHCR’s activities in Nepal. — HNS

Highway blocked

NUWAKOT: Kathmandu-Trishuli section of Pasang Lhamu Highway has been blocked after a landslide on Thursday at Belkot village. Big chunks of rocks blocked the road, making transportation impossible. The landslide has damaged at least 30 m of the highway. On Friday, all vehicles headed out from Kathmandu on the highway returned. — HNS
