Two arms dealers held

ITAHARI: Two youths were arrested in possession of weapons from Sunsari’s Itahari on Sunday. Acting on a tip off, a team of Area Police Office Itahari had arrested Dharma Shrestha and Anup Rai along with two American pistols, three magazines and seven rounds of bullets, informed Inspector Surendra Sitaula. He added that the arrest could lead to a lot of other arms dealers. — HNS


‘One-China policy’

Itahari: Minister for Federal Affairs, Constituent Assembly, Parliamentary Management and Culture Minendra Rijal today clarified that Nepal was in support of the one-China policy. Inaugurating the Confucius Institute established by the Nepal China Friendship Council in the Capital, minister Rijal said, “As Nepal and China are close neighbours, Nepal supports one China policy and seeks to maintain cordial relation with China.” He also urged guardians to encourage their children to learn Chinese language stating that language played a vital role to widen friendship between two countries. — HNS


Task force meeting

Kathmandu: The task force of three major political parties formed on Saturday to work out the formation of a high-level political mechanism held its first meeting on Sunday and dwelt on the modalities and terms of reference of the mechanism. The Unified CPN-Maoist reiterated its stance to address its demand of 'settling the issue of civil supremacy' before forming the mechanism. — HNS


Elderly kills self

SARLAHI: Fifty-two-year-old Ramdev Raut, resident of Malangawa, Sarlahi, committed suicide by jumping into a pond in front of of the district police office on Sunday. According to eyewitness Ajit Singh, Raut took off his clothes before diving in. "Raut then swam towards the middle of the pond and drowned," he added. The locals were able to recover Raut's body out of the pond using fishing nets. -- HNS
