Six held with arms
ITAHARI: Police here held six persons in possession of weapons from various parts of Sunsari within the past few days. Organising a press meet on Tuesday, Inspector Surendra Sitaula, Area Police Office Itahari, said three of them were caught with two US-made pistols and bullets. Anup Rai (18) of Nepaltar-5 Ilam, Dharma Shrestha (18) of Sikkim, India and Akash Limbu (17) of Tehrathum’s Basantapur are among the held. Bheshraj Bhujel of Dharan-16, Ganesh Bista of Itahari-4 and Mangalsingh Subba of Damak-5 were held with homemade weapons. Those arrested could be jailed for three to five years and fined anything between Rs 60,000 to one lakh if proved guilty as per the Arms and Ammunition Act. — HNS
Two found dead
DAMAK: Bodies of two persons, who were swept away by the Ratuwa river, were found in Damak on Tuesday. They have been identified as Bhutanese refugee Buddhi Bahadur Rai (30), belonging to Sector H in Camp II, and Durga Prasad Rai (42), a resident of Ilam’s Banjho, who left Damak for Ilam on Monday evening, police said. Their bodies were found near Beldangi camp III, police inspector Nabin Karki said. Water level in the river has risen from the past few days. — HNS
Villages inundated
NAWALPARASI: The flood triggered by the torrential downpour in local rivulet inundated three villages of Hukai VDC of Nawlparasi district. The continuous rainfall in the district flooded the VDC's Bakenawa, Tonawa, Lalpati villages. According to local resident Anil Yadav, the rain forced around 400 local residents to leave their houses. People of 300 households of the villages are sheltering on the roadside due to the flood. Most of the food crops in the areas have been damaged and the houses have been covered with flood water. Similarly, the flood in Sukali VDC-3 of the district has also inundated around a dozen households. — RSS
Businessmen robbed
DADELDHURA: Two looters robbed two businessmen -- Lalan Gupta and Murari Adhikari of Bhimdutt Municipality -- of Rs 2 million at gunpoint from Kerabari along Bhimdutt Highway in the district on Tuesday. They were returning Dhangadhi on a car after collecting the amount from their clients of Dadeldhura. Police said a team of policemen has been mobilised in the area to track down the looters. — RSS
