Five houses looted
BIRATNAGAR: A gang of 10 persons looted property worth Rs 2,00,000 from five houses in Mangalbare of Urlabari VDC-6 on Friday evening. The gang looted the houses of Mohan Thapa, Umesh Jung Subedi, Ishwori Chapagain, Bhesh Bahadur Kafle and Devi Rijal, said police head constable Gunaraj Rijal of the Area Police Office, Urlabari. — HNS
Surprise inspections
RAMECHHAP: A team of the District Monitoring Committee (DMC) on Friday conducted surprise inspections of two government offices. Led by the DMC’s coordination committee member, Dal Kumari Sunuwar, the team went to the District Revenue Office and Drinking Water Division Office. Sunuwar said the team found the performance of both offices satisfactory. — HNS
UNICEF assistance
BHARATPUR: UNICEF Nepal will provide financial assistance worth Rs 2,445,193 to run the decentralised action plan for children and women in Chitwan. The assistance is provided for January 2005 to June 2006. UNICEF Nepal and district development committee signed an agreement paper to this end on Friday. UNICEF has been providing assistance in Chitwan for the past seven years. — RSS

Students rally in Pokhara
POKHARA: Nepal Students’ Union (NSU) members held a protest rally in Pokhara on Saturday, demanding the release of their central leaders and restoration of democratic process. Earlier, NSU supporters of Prithivinarayan Multiple Campus, Western Regional Campus and Jan Priya Campus had disrupted traffic flow by burning tyres on main roads in Pokhara. — HNS
SCCI chairman arrested
DHARAN: Police arrested Pawan Kumar Agrawal, the chairman of Sunsari Chambers of Commerce and Industries (SCCI) in course of investigation into the murder of local journalist and businessman Khagendra Shrestha. Agrawal was arrested from the SCCI office at Dharan-4 on Friday evening. InspectorKrishna Prasad Sharma of the Dharan Area Police Office confirmed Agarwal’s arrest. — HNS
