Diarrhoea claims one

DAILEKH: Hom Bahadur BK (21) of Katti VDC-2, died of diarrhoea on Friday. Dr Gunraj Awasti, chief, District Public Health Office, said BK died due to lack of timely treatment. With BK’s death, the diarrhoeal toll in the district has hit 23. Yesterday, two persons had died to the disease in Nepa VDC of the district. — HNS

Cop killed in mishap

BANKE: A police van on patrol overturned on the road at Mahadevpur in Banke district on Friday, killing one policeman and injuring five others. The deceased is identified as police constable Radha Krishna Tharu. Police said the accident occurred when the jeep (Na 1 Ga 505) slipped while trying to take a turn at the local Bhukhola. The injured are undergoing treatment at Kohalpur-based Nepalgunj Medical College. — RSS

Body found

DAMAK: Body of Marapache Sunuwar (40), a resident of Damak-10 of Jhapa district, was recovered from the local Betauna River on Friday. Sunuwar had drowned three days ago while crossing the river, local residents said. He was working as a servant at a local’s house. Police said they already initiated an investigation into the incident. — HNS

Telecom staffer freed

ITAHARI: Shekhar Pokharel, a staffer of Nepal Telecom Office, Biratnagar, was rescued from his abductors on Thursday night. An armed group had abducted Pokharel from Kaptangunj on July 17. The Indian police, with the help of Nepal Police, freed him from a house in Madhepur Ghailar, India, the police said. Three Indian nationals were also held on the charge of their involvement in Pokharel’s abduction. The abductors were demanding Rs 1.5 million ransom against his release. — HNS
