SC order to govt
KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court on Monday ordered the government authorities including the Home Ministry, the Police Headquarters and the Kathmandu District Administration Office to clarify why student leaders — Om Prasad Aryal, Jyoti Sharma, Dipak Rai, Lochan KC, Mahesh Devkota and Dilliram Bohara — were arrested. A division bench of justices Dilip Kumar Paudel and Rajendra Kumar Bhandari issued the order following the hearing. The bench also ordered the authorities to produce their decisions over the issue. Advocates Radheshyam Adhikary, Shambhu Thapa and Dinesh Tripathi pleaded on behalf of the student leaders. They were arrested on February 1. — HNS
Child killed in accident
DANG: One child was killed in a road accident on Monday morning at Lalmatiya of Deukheri valley of Dang district. Subash Sarki, son of Brihaspati Sarki of Barhkhuti died on the spot when a passenger bus (Na 2 Kha 1067) hit him. — HNS
50,000 visit fair
BARA: Some 50, 000 people visited the five-day Bara festival till the third day on Monday, it is reported. Business transaction worth over five million rupees took place in the five-day festival, Susil Chaugain, coordinator of organising committee said. Over Rs 80,000 has been collected by selling the entrance tickets, he said. Agriculture tools, handicrafts and other items were showcased in the exhibition, he further informed. Visitors from Makwanpur, Janakpur and representatives of Biranagar Chambers Commerce thronged the fair, he said. — HNS

BIRATNAGAR: Six district level government offices here have been allocated land for construction of their buildings. The 4.5 bigha plot belonging to the Regional Agriculture Directorate has been divided into six parts and registered under six district level offices — 10 katthas for Regional Live Stock Directorate, 5.5 katthas for the Regional Treasurer Directorate, four katthas for District Election Office, three katthas for the District Commerce Office and one bigha for the Regional Food Laboratory, district commerce office chief Lalit Shrestha. — HNS
Blast at govt office
DHANGADHI: Kailali District Land Revenue office in Dhangadhi municipality-1 was destroyed in an explosion on Saturday afternoon. Documents, furniture and other property of the office were damaged, according to the office. Peon Dambar Rawal, who fell unconscious at the time of explosion, has been undergoing treatment at Seti Zonal hospital, it is said. — RSS
