Threat by Badi women

Kathmandu: Women from the Badi community on Monday threatened to stage naked demonstrations in front of ministers if the government remained indifferent towards their plight. “We, along with our children, will stage nude demonstrations in front of the ministers and let them do whatever they want,” said Sundari Nepali recalling the pathetic condition of Badi women who are living without land and citizenship. Many Badi women are known to have engaged in flesh trade to earn a living. — HNS

Chakkajam called off

BARA: The Maoists on Monday called off the indefinite Chakkajam in Bara, Parsa and Rautahat districts. Transportation services in the districts resumed after the Maoists’ Joint Bara-Parsa committee secretary Prakash called off the strike issuing a press statement. — HNS

Maoists abduct policeman

TAPLEJUNG: The Maoists on Monday evening abducted a police constable from Taplejung district. Sanjaya Shah, who was deployed for the security of Suketar-based airport, is reported to have been taken to an unknown destination by the Maoists. The chief of RNA’s Indradal barrack at the district headquarters, Rupendra Budhathoki, said security forces have been mobilised to search for him. — HNS

CPC team meets Rana

KATHMANDU: A team led by chairman of the Citizen’s Peace Commission (CPC) Krishna Jung Rayamajhi on Monday met Rastriya Prajatantra Party president Pashupati Shumsher Rana and sought the RPP’s stance on the Maoist demands. According to a CPC press statement, during the meeting Rana said his party was still undecided about the need for a new constitution. “RPP is ready to reach a broad national consensus to resolve the Maoist problem,” Rana said. — HNS

Body found

RAMECHHAP: The body of Lal Kumari Thapa of Dimipokhari VDC-3 was found by local villagers. Thapa, 24, had gone to the forest to graze her cows. Police are investigating the incident. — RSS

Prisoner rearrested

SIRAHA: Escaped prisoner Bisheshwor Das Tatma, 25, of Siraha was arrested again after three hours. Tatma was serving a life sentence at the district jail on the charge of killing his son. The convict had jumped over the wall after climbing on the roof of toilet in the jail, it is said. — RSS
