Measles claims one
BARA: A child was died of measles that has outbroken at Madhuban of Haraiya VDC in Bara district. Narma Khatun (8), daughter of Sarfudin Miya, died on Thursday, said Sonalal Shah, a local resident. Likewise, symptoms of the disease were found with four children of another family in the VDC. — HNS
School bus torched
NEPALGUNJ: The Maoists have damaged a school bus belonging to the Jayabageshwori Higher Secondary School parked within the school premises near Surkhet Road in Nepalgunj at around 8 pm on Thursday. The front part of the bus was already damaged when the fire brigade arrived the scene. Likewise, a bomb went off in front of the office of the Appellate court attorney general near the Hospital Chowk in Nepalgunj at around 7.30 pm on Thursday. There are no reports of the damage by the explosion. — HNS
SSB arrests one Maoist
BHAIRAHAWA: A Maoist cadre was arrested by the Special Security Bureau (SSB) of India while he was trying to enter India after escaping a crossfire between the security forces and the Maoists at Bodhbar VDC of Rupandehi district on Thursday morning. The Maoists had opened fire at the security forces at 3.30 am from a house of local Lotu Pashu. After the security forces retaliated, four Maoists including Pashu had run away from the house. Pashu was arrested by SSB while trying to enter India. Nepali security forces have arrested another Maoist. — HNS
Traffic on halt in Hetauda
HETAUDA: Vehicular movement in Hetauda and surrounding areas remained closed on Thursday on the second day of the two-day chakkajam called by the Maoists in Makawanpur and Dhading districts. The Maoists have called the strike to protest the killing of four Maoists by the security forces. SLC examinees from the rural parts had to come to the headquarters on foot for the exams beginning from Friday. — HNS
Man-eater tigress killed
CHITWAN: A team of security forces of the Royal Chitwan National Park killed a man-eater tigress on Thursday afternoon. The tigress was said to be terrorising the local people at Kathar VDC at the eastern part of the Chitwan district. Earlier it had killed Mohan Bahadur Moktan, 51, and a four-year-old Punam Gurung. The security team had captured the beast near Dibyanagar VDC of western Chitwan and implanted a radioactive device in its body to study its activities along with its three cubs. — HNS
