Girl injured by car dies

Damauli: A girl who was seriously injured when a car Ba 5 Cha 3741 heading for Pokhara from Kathmandu hit her at Dulegauda -7 this afternoon, died while undergoing treatment today. Samjhana Banstola, 5, of the same place, died while undergoing treatment at Gandaki Hospital Pokhara, said the District Police Office, Tanahun. Phone service halted

Damak: Landline telephone services in Damak and surrounding areas in Jhapa district have been disrupted since Thursday. More than 5,000 telephone lines in the area are out of order since 4 pm on Thursday after the Nepal Telecom tower at Damak was damaged due to lightning. Chief of Damak Telecom, Arjun Ghimire said initiatives are being taken to resume the telephone service. The disruption has caused inconvenience to the clients of 12 VDCs. — RSS

One dies, 7 injured

Bhimphedi: One person died and seven others were injured when the Tata Sumo jeep they were travelling in met with an accident at Judikhet, Bhimphedi in Makwanpur district today. The jeep was going towards Hetaunda from Kathmandu via Pharping. The deceased is 35-year-old Dhan Bahadur Majhi of Chhatiwan VDC-9, Makwanpur. It is learned the accident happened due to brake failure. Among the injured, 22-year-old Kamal Majhi is said to be in critical condition and he has been taken to Bharatpur for treatment. — RSS

Police, locals clash

Gaur: Six policemen and some one dozen locals were injured in a clash between locals and the personnel of the Armed Police Force (APF) Office, Auraiya. The clash took place after APF men made an attempt to rape a local girl at about 8 pm on Thursday. Locals assembled at the local Durga temple after the girl shouted for help upon attempts by the policemen to rape her. She had gone to the temple for worshipping on the occasion of Bada Dasain. — RSS
