Two killed in accident

ILAM: Two persons were killed and two others injured in separate incidents in Ilam. Raju Barma, a resident of Biratnagar was killed when a truck en route to Ilam from Biratnagar hit him and turned turtle at Godak along the Mechi highway. Driver Madhav Lama and helper Shiva Lama were also injured in the accident, police said. Likewise, a person, Udip Bahadur Gurung was killed in Maipokhari on Tuesday night. Gurung a resident of Maipokhari-1, was electrocuted while repairing house wiring, police said. — HNS

7 passengers injured

DHARAN: Seven persons were injured when a microbus en route to Dhankuta from Dharan met with an accident in Bhedetar on Wednesday. The injured, Bishworaj Nepal of Itahari, Durga Niraula of Hasposa, Bhola Subedi of Urlabari, Sangita Panta and Yadav Pant of Sankhuwasabha among others are undergoing treatment at BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Dharan. The ill-fated bus had a brake failure, police said. — HNS

Three soldiers robbed

DHADING: An unidentified gang looted three persons returning home from India, in Dhading on Tuesday night. The trio, Som Bahadur Tamang, Phulman Gurung and Sanjeev Gurung of Marpak VDC-9, working for the Indian Army, were on their way back home via Kakarvitta. They were lying unconscious in their seats when the bus arrived at Malekhu on Wednesday morning. Phulman and Sanjeev on regaining consciousness said that they were made away with IRs100,000 and two mobile phones. The police have interrogated the staffers of the bus and further investigation was in due process, Gajuri Area Police Office confirmed. — HNS

‘Federalism a tool’

Kathmandu: Maoist central committee member and former culture minister Gopal Kirati on Wednesday said his party would establish autonomous states as base areas to fight against anti-revolutionary forces. “Nepali revolution is in a strategic offensive phase, that needs a base area and people’s army for the reactionaries are to be dealt with,” he said. UCPN-M had both the strengths, he confirmed at a book launching function organised by Udaypur-Kathmandu Republican Front. — HNS
