Mystery disease kills 2

NAWALPARASI: Two persons have died and at least 60 others have been taken ill when a mystery disease broke out in Nawalparasi's Dhurkot VDC last week. The deceased have been identified as 63-year-old Amarsingh Baraghare and a 65-year old woman, said a local Dev Bahadur Suryabanshi. The patients complained of high fever, headache and diarrhoea for five days before they succumbed to the disease. Treatment efforts have been marred by short supply of medicine in the local health post. "A team of health professionals has been sent with medicine to the affected area," said chief of District Public Health Office, Dr RH Dip. — HNS

Matrika’s concern

KATHMANDU: Reconstituted CPN-Maoist led by Matrika Prasad Yadav today expressed serious concern over the news published in different newspapers regarding its central convener Yadav joining UCPN-Maoist. "Media have been reporting that Yadav met leaders of UCPN-Maoist and has agreed to join that party, which is baseless," stated a press release issued by the party here today. The statement claimed that Yadav had never met with any leaders of UCPN-Maoist and "such rumours were spread by anti-revolutionary elements". Yadav's Maoist party also urged the media not to cover such malicious news without confirming it with the concerned party. — HNS

Khas Chhetris rally

LALITPUR: Khas Chhetri Ekta Samaj struggle committee organised a motorcycle rally in Lalitpur on Saturday, as a protest against not listing the Khas Chhetris in the indigenous nationalities of the country. Lalitpur district coordinator of the struggle committee, Sushil Chhetri, said they had to launch first round of protest as the government turned down its demands of representation, participation, proportional reservation of Khas Chhetris in the state bodies and opportunities, among others, in spite of frequent pleas. He warned of the second round of protest in a vigorous manner if the government continued turning deaf ear to these demands. The rally was taken to New Baneshwor from Jawalakhel. — RSS

Rhino kills girl

RATNANAGAR: A girl died from rhino attack in Chitwan on Friday night. The girl who died was Rita Nepali, 17, of Dolechok of Mangalpur -5. She was attacked when she came out of the house. She died while undergoing treatment in Bharatpur. Rhinos of the Chitwan National Park have killed more than 34 people within the last three years. Singharam Kumal, 32, of Meghauli- 2 Sisabas, had died in tiger-attack on August 19. — RSS
