Tree crushes 1 death

SANKHUWASABHA: One person was killed when he was crushed by a tree in Sankhuwasabha district on Monday. Kamsire Sherpa (42), a resident of Siddhapokhari-5, who had gone to pick cardamom in the field, died on the spot after a falling tree hit him, police inspector Prakash Sharma said. Sherpa's body was taken to Chainpur Primary Health Centre to perform an autopsy. — HNS

Women shut Phidim

Phidim: Protesting what they called a 'biased court verdict" on a murder case, local women shut Phidim Bazaar, the district headquarters of Panchthar today. Stating that the murderers of one Tilarupa Kafle, a resident of Ektin VDC, were released on bail, they enforced the bazaar closure till the afternoon. Tilarupa's husband Dhan Kumar Kafle and father-in-law Teknath have been accused of murdering her. The women had been demonstrating in front of the District Court, Government Lawyer's Office and District Administration Office since Sunday. Nine local residents, including Tilarupa's father, had lodged a complaint against the duo on July 8. The victim's kin have accused Dr Surendra Chaudhary of district hospital of manipulating the autopsy report due to bribe. Meanwhile, Bimala Dhakal, district president, Women Human Rights Protection Network, said they had decided to move the appellate court against the doctor. — HNS
