Three students held

MAHENDRANAGAR: Police detained three agitating students following a clash at Kanchanpur DAO on Tuesday. The police also thrashed NSU’s Kanchanpur district chairman Tarkaraj Bhatt, ANNFSU chairman Madhav Pant and secretary Lokendra Bohara before taking them into custody. ANNFSU district member Durga Bhatt was also injured in the clash. The students were staging protests, demanding establishment of the proposed Far-Western University in Mahendranagar. — HNS

No Holi for Tharus

KANCHANPUR: The Tharus will not celebrate Holi this year in Kanchanpur. The Kanchanpur chapter of the Tharu Civil Society (TCS) said they had decided not to celebrate the Holi festival this year to mourn the death of Kamal Chaudhary and Bipin Khadka, who were killed during the Tharuhat agitation in Chitwan. “We have also decided to celebrate Holi with a victory rally if the government addressed our demands today,” Phulman Chaudhary, coordinator of the TCS, Kanchanpur, said. — HNS

Campus chief quits

NUWAKOT: Election for Free Students’ Union is likely to be postponed in Nuwakot Adarsha Multiple Campus after campus chief and coordinator of election committee tendered resignations. Election committee coordinator Surendraraj Adhikary and campus chief Devendra Rana tendered resignations, under the pressure of Maoist student wing ANNISU-R, which was pressing the campus to admit new students against the accord with other student unions. — HNS

Demand for varsity

JANAKPURDHAM: NC general secretary Bimalendra Nidhi on Tuesday demanded that the proposed Rajarshi Janak University should be established in Janankpur at the earliest. Nidhi who is chairman of a committee formed to facilitate the university establishment said the university could not be established due to the government’s negligence for the past 12 years. — HNS
