KATHMANDU: President Dr Ram Baran Yadav on Monday felicitated the oldest person climbing Mt Everest Min Bahadur Sherchan amid a special function organised at the presidential palace. Sherchan, 77, had broken the record of the oldest climber Miura, 71, of Japan, in May 2008. — RSS

Truck runs over kid

BUTWAL: A child was killed when a truck ran over him at Sukkhanagar of Butwal on Sunday evening. Two-and-a-half-year old Nirmal Chaudhary, the son of Sadhuram Chaudhary of Tikapur in Kailali. The Chaudhary family is living in a rented room at Sukkhanagar. Nirmal was taken by his father’s friend Purna Bahadur Rana for a ride. But the baby fell from the truck at a mode and was run over by the truck. — RSS

UML leader bereaved

DANG: Tilottama Upadhyaya, the mother of UML leader and Constituent Assembly member Shankar Pokharel, died on Sunday. She was at 78. She is survived by three sons. — RSS

Road mishap death

CHITWAN: A person was killed in a road mishap here on Monday morning. Identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained. The accident occurred when a Kathmandu-bound tanker from Birgunj hit him as Belsi. Locals disrupted traffic at Belsi on the East-West Highway, demanding compensation to the victim’s family. — RSS

Four held with arms

GAUR: Police arrested four persons along with weapons from Chandranigahpur of Rautahat on Sunday night. They were arrested during a check at Chandranigahpur. The arrested are Sun Bahadur, Raju Ale, Durga Golachan and Puran Ale. Two pistol, bullets and sharp weapons were seized from them, the police said. — RSS

Abductor arrested

PALPA: Police have arrested a person who had been asking Rs 100,000 ransom from the family of a person after abducting the latter. The police also rescued the abducted person. The police made public the abductor Lal Bahadur Pachabhaiya (38) of Pallikot VDC-7 of Gulmi. His group had abducted Baburam Pokharel (51) of Sardewa in Palpa’s Somadi VDC-2 on January 5. — HNS

Two missing

SINDHUPALCHOCK: Two persons went missing after a taxi plunged into Bhotekoshi river following an accident at Kothe along the Araniko Highway on Monday evening. The taxi was heading to Kathmandu from Sindhupalchock’s Chauthali. The third passenger managed to swim across safety. — HNS

Lohani’s stance

NUWAKOT: Co-chairman of Rastriya Janashakti Party Dr Prakash Chandra Lohani has said that integration of PLA into Nepali Army should not happen at any cost. Addressing a press conference in Bidur on Sunday, Dr Lohani said the PLA personnel should be rather integrated into other security wings, but not the Nepal Army. He said it would affect the competitive system in the Nepal Army if any activist answerable to a certain party was inducted into the Nepal Army. — RSS
