Student abducted

MAHOTTARI: Satyendra Yadav, central joint general secretary of Students’ Front, affiliated to the Tarai Madhes Democratic Party, was abducted from Mahottari on Friday. Yadav from Bathnaha-7 in Mahottari was kidnapped by a person in veil of Baba Tyagi, according to the family sources. “Yadav received several calls from an Indian telephone number for the last few days and abducted for refusing to ‘donate’,” Abhiram Sharma, coordinator of the TMDP Mahottari, claimed. — HNS

Bandh called off

PHIDIM: The indefinite Mechi and Koshi bandh called by the Pallo Kirant Rastriya Manch was called off on Friday. The PKRM on Thursday had called the indefinite bandh demanding the release of its cadres who were detained from Sanischare in Morang on December 19. “The bandh has been suspended for the time being keeping in view the Damak Festival,” central joint treasurer of PKRM Babin Sharma said. The bandh withdrawl resumed vehicular movement in Panchthar, Ilam, Taplejung and Jhapa districts. — HNS

Couple arrested

Rautahat: A couple was arrested on Friday for throwing their three-month old baby daughter out in the cold following a dispute between them. Gopi Pathak and his wife Urmila Devi of Gaur-2 had thrown the baby on the bank of Barahawa river near their house. Locals picked the baby from the bank and had taken her to Gaur hospital for treatment. District police office Rautahat said the couple would be charged for

Two killed in mishap

BHADRAPUR: Two persons were killed in a road mishap in Bhadrapur of Jhapa district on Thursday night. Rajesh Bartaula, 27, and Diwas Tamang, 24, of Mechinagar Municipality-10 died on the spot when their motorbike hit a truck, parked at Dhaijan along the East-West Highway, police said. — RSS
