Man gunned down

RAJBIRAJ: An unidentified gang on Tuesday shot dead Jhari Lal Kusiyat (60) of Lohajara VDC-2 in Saptari district. “Jha was hit in the head. His body was found in Goitihi VDC-6 at around 9 am,” police said, adding that he might have been killed after abduction. Meanwhile, a gang of eight persons abducted Binod Kumar Shah (32) of Kochabakhari VDC-7 on Monday. “He was abducted around midnight when he was sleeping,” his family said. In another incident, locals took Raj Yadav (25) of Jamunimagepura VDC-3 under their control on the charge of forcibly seeking donation. Yadav was held when he was demanding donation from a local teacher over phone, locals said. — HNS

One killed in mishap

NAWALPARASI: Mukta Bahadur Thapa (35) of Deurali village development committee-6 in the district died when his motorcycle collided with a bus in Kawasoti on Tuesday. “Thapa, who was critically injured in the accident, died while undergoing treatment in Bharatpur Medical College,” District Police Office, Nawalparasi, stated. — HNS

Hydel project halted

Sindhupalchowk: The locals on Monday padlocked the tunnel construction site of the Indrabati IV Hydel Project saying their demands have not been addressed. The Jyamire village development committee residents affected by the project padlocked the ongoing tunnel construction site, seeking roads and alternative arrangement for teachers of local schools before the construction begins. President of the community development and environment conservation forum Jyamire, Kiran Dip Khadka, said it was high time that their demands were met. — HNS.

OPD shut

Janakpurdham: Outpatient department was shut for 48 hours in the Janakpur Hospital on Tuesday to protest a blast in a health institution. JTMM-Rajan Mukti faction had detonated a bomb at the Bachchhar maternal home run by Dr Kalpana Bachchhar on Monday. All health institutions here were shut in protest. Nepal Medical Association at an emergency meeting in Janakpur zonal hospital decided to discontinue the OPD services, except emergency, in-patient and maternal wards.

It also warned that even the emergency ward would be shut in the face of attacks on any health institution. — HNS
