House stalled

KATHMANDU: Leaders of the Nepali Congress and other opposition parties disrupted the regular session of the House on Saturday as well, demanding that the Finance Minister update the Appropriation Bill as per the promises made while replying to the Constituent Assembly members’ queries during the general discussion on the budget. Speaker Subas Nembang had to adjourn the proceedings, as the opposition continued to disrupt the House and shouted slogans against the Finance Minister for “lying to the House”. The House is scheduled meet again on Sunday. — HNS

Man shot dead

BIRATNAGAR/PALPA: Two persons shot and killed a 50-year-old civilian at his home in Tankisinwari of Morang district on Saturday. Kamal Adhikari, a resident of Tankisinwari-2, who was wounded in the chest in the shooting, died on the way to hospital, the police said, adding that a search for the two was underway. Meanwhile, people of Pipaldanda VDC in Palpa district beat up and killed a dacoit on Friday. The police said Pipaldanda folks nabbed the dacoit and his friends while they were looting the shop of Rebat Bahadur Rayamajhi in Lahasune. The unidentified man died while undergoing treatment. — HNS

Elderly lynched

BAITADI: A group beat to death 40-year-old Dev Singh Bhandari of Rodideval village development committee-8 in Baitadi district on Thursday following a dispute, the District Police Office said. The police have detained Chanchal Singh Bhandari, Jay Singh Bhandari and Karan Singh Bhandari on suspicion of their involvement in the incident. The police said an investigation is underway. — HNS

Three vehicles seized

BIRGUNJ: Cadres of the Youth Force seized three government vehicles from Maisthan in Birgunj on Saturday for plying on Saturday, a public holiday. A team led by YF district commander Ajay Kushbaha seized the vehicles belonging to the Nepal Electricity Authority, Underground Irrigation Project and the Narayani Irrigation Office. YF warned government staffers not to operate vehicles on holidays. — HNS
