KATHMANDU, MAY 29
The government has announced an increase of nearly 21 percent in the salaries of civil servants.
Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle, while presenting the budget for the upcoming fiscal year, said the overall salary adjustment would result in a combined rise of around 21 percent.
According to the budget, basic salaries have been increased by 10 percent, while employees will also receive a 10 percent monthly performance-based incentive. The existing inflation allowance has been retained.
The government said the adjustment will raise minimum salaries to around Rs 40,000 and maximum pay to over Rs 100,000.
The finance minister noted that civil servants had not received a salary revision for the past four years, during which inflation had risen by 17.3 percent. He said the new structure is intended to address inflationary pressure and improve morale in the public sector.
