JANAKPURDHAM: Locals arrested Bharat Jha of Kumrauda, currently living in Janakpur Municipality-8, and handed over to the police on charges of looting the house of the chairman of Ramananda Youth Club Jiba Nath Chaudhary. Jha is learnt to have served a four-month jail term on charges of possessing weapons in the past. — RSS
Rs 7 lakh robbed
DHANGADHI: An unidentified armed gang on Wednesday looted Rs 700,000 from Bhandari Money Changer at Milan Chowk of Dhangadhi Municipality-2. Three persons, who came on a motorcycle looted the money at around 12:30 pm at gunpoint. Police said a search for the looters is underway. — RSS
PCL exams put off
DHANKUTA: Examination of papers of different faculties of the Proficiency Certificate Level (PCL) II year that were to be held on Wednesday morning were postponed in Dhankuta bazaar due to the ongoing indefinite curfew. Campus chief Bishnu Maden said examinations of IEd, IA and ISc were put off. Local administration has imposed indefinite curfew in Dhankuta bazaar and adjoining areas since Sunday, following clashes between Young Communist League and Youth Force cadres. Maden said examination of the Bachelor level II year, scheduled for tomorrow, would also be postponed if the curfew continued. — RSS
Diseases grip Khotang
KHOTANG: Three persons have died after diseases like viral fever, typhoid, pneumonia, asthma, cold and diarrhoea broke out in rural areas of the district nearly a month ago due to contamination of drinking water. Acting head of Khotang district hospital Raju Basnet said at least 125 people have been turning to the hospital daily, he said. He said those who died in the hospital died of typhoid and asthma. — HNS
Kidnap bid foiled
DAMAK: Police arrested two persons from Damak Municipality of Jhapa on Tuesday night while they were trying to kidnap a local contractor Raj Kumar Thapa. Police identified the arrested as Krishna Bahadur Dewan and Upen Rai of Damak-13. Thapa, who was being taken away by the kidnappers on a motorcycle, called the police after their motorcycle overturned, police said. Police seized a revolver and two rounds of bullets from the kidnappers. The police have lodged a case against them under Arms and Ammunition Act. — HNS
Student swept away
ROLPA: A student was swept away while trying to cross Madikhola river in Rolpa on Monday. Gagan Jung Roka, a ninth grader at Bright Future Boarding School in Liwang who hailed from Rangkot-4 Koral, and his friend Rakesh Pun were swept away by the River while they were heading to Liwang. Though Pun managed to swam across the shore, Roka went missing. A search for Roka is on, police said. — HNS
Road accident
LEKHNATH: Two persons were killed in separate incidents here on Tuesday night. Sagar Lama of Pokhara-17 Gharipatan was killed when a dairy van hit his motorcycle while he was heading to Mustang Chowk from Prithvichowk. Pillion riders Anup Shahi and Rajan Shahi were injured in the accident. Anup is being treated in Fewa City Hospital and Rajan is being treated in Charak Hospital, police said. Meanwhile, an unidentified person who was found in unconscious state In Neermaya Dohari Restaurant died on the way to hospital on Tuesday night, police said. — RSS

SARLAHI: A person died after a wild elephant attacked him in Ishworpur VDC near Sagarnath Forest Development Project on Monday night. According to DSP Hanuman Shah, 17-year-old Shiva Raj Mainali of Ishworpur-4 died in the attack. — HNS
Man drowned
KAVRE: Nabaraj Chaulagai (17), a resident of Kattike Deurali VDC of Kavre district, drowned in Sunkoshi river at Dolalghat of the district on Tuesday. Police said Chaulagai drowned while swimming in the river. Meanwhile, a five-year-old child, Asmita Thapa of Tukucha Nala village development committee, was killed when a tiger attacked her on Monday. — RSS
Maoist leader killed
MAHOTTARI: An unidentified gang killed Maoists’ district leader Sudhiya Devi Ram following his abduction on Tuesday night. She was abducted from her house in Bhangaha village development committee-5, Kataiya, CPN-Maoist Mahottari district secretary Ramesh Kumar Mahato said. Her body was recovered from the border of Dhanusha’s Bengadabar and Batteshwor. According to the Mahottari district police office, sharp-edged weapon had been used in her murder. Investigation into her murder has begun, police said. — HNS
