Four killed in mishap

BHAIRAHAWA: Four persons were killed and two injured when a bus and a van collided in Gonaha VDC on Lumbini-Bhairahawa section of road on Wednesday night. The deceased have been identified as Pappu Kurmi (32) of Devgadhiya, Arati Chamar (45) and Ninee Chamar (25) of Taulihawa-8 and Lalau Chamar (26) of Lamtiya of Kapilvastu, the Rupandehi district police office said, adding they died while undergoing treatment in a Bhairahawa-based teaching hospital of a medical college. — HNS

UML cadre shot at

PHIDIM: A cadre of the CPN-UML was hurt when an unidentified gang of 15 shot at him on Wednesday night while he was asleep in his house in Phalaicha-3 of Pachthar district. Tikaram Kharel, village secretary of the party, has been taken to Dharan-based BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences for treatment, UML district committee member Raj Kumar Bhandari said. — HNS

Rs 1.35 million stolen

BIRGUNJ: Rs 1.35 million in cash was stolen from the dickey of a motorbike, which was parked on the road opposite Nepal Investment Bank, Adarshanagar, on Thursday afternoon. “I had withdrawn the cash for Birgunj-9 based Rainbow Trade Concern and somebody stole it,” employee of Rainbow Trade Concern, Shambhu Yadav, said. — HNS

Statue theft

BIRGUNJ: A brass statue of deity Bhimsen was stolen on Wednesday night from a temple in Mina Bazaar of Birgunj. Locals have accused Sudip Maharjan, a resident in the temple’s vicinity, of theft. They chased him till Raxaul of India and handed him to the police on Thursday. In another incident on Wednesday night, robbers made away with gold and silver ornaments, as well as cash, worth Rs 29,000 from the house of Gopal Patel in Mina Bazaar. — HNS
