RJP cadres quit party
RAJBIRAJ: Several Rastriya Janashakti Party cadres on Tuesday quit the party to join the Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum, claiming that the government failed to address the problems facing the Tarai people. RJP district secretary Umesh Prasad Yadav, former district development committee chairman Sachyendra Kumar Yadav, former mayor of Rajbiraj municipality Shyam Kishor Singh, vice-president Bhagbat Yadav, district member Govinda Prasav Dev and 20 others quit RJP. At a press conference organised here on Tuesday, 25 former RJP cadres promised to actively involve in Madhes movement and help establish the rights of the Madhesis. — HNS
Robbery on highway
RAJBIRAJ: An unidentified gang looted property worth Rs 3 lakhs from a passenger bus in Kadmaha on Mahendra Highway in Saptari on Tuesday morning. The gang of more than 10 armed robbers looted the property from the passengers of the bus heading to Ilam from Kathmandu at 4 am, the Kaderbona Area Police Office said. The robbers also abducted a passenger, Karma Lama, in the course of robbery. —HNS
NSU cadres’ protest
TANAHUN: Cadres of the Nepal Students’ Union (NSU) organised a chakkajam and chanted slogans protesting against the arrest of its cadres, including NSU district secretary Rabin Paudel, in Damauli bazaar on Tuesday. Police had arrested NSU cadres on the charge of vandalising the house of NC Tanahun president Raghunath Paudel on Wednesday night. The agitating students said the police arrested NSU unit president of Damauli College Ramchandra Giri and Mohan Shahi without arrest warrants. Demanding release of those arrested, NSU cadres also gheraoed the police office and obstructed the main chock of Damauli bazaar and Prithvi highway on Tuesday. Talks with the agitating students was underway, DSP Ghanashyam Aryal said. — HNS
